Being a CBYF Youth Intern

Updated: Oct 26, 2022

Hello everyone!

My name is Marissa, and I am one of Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) Youth Interns. I was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario and attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School. I am part of a large population of youth who started their life after high school not knowing exactly what they wanted to do with their life, and I just wanted to quickly say that it is absolutely okay to not know what you want to do!

I attended Wilfrid Laurier University at their Waterloo campus after graduating high school and dropped out after first year because I didn’t see a future for the program I was studying. After working for a year to think things through, I attended Fanshawe College and received a diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. I felt confident that this was an education that would guide me in the right direction for my future, but after doing office work in health care I realized that helping people was a passion of mine instead of working behind the scenes. I recently graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Psychology and I intend to get my Master’s as soon as I have more work experience (and to save money because school is unfortunately not cheap!)

CBYF has become a major passion project of mine. It has been such an amazing experience meeting such diverse groups of intelligent, ambitious and overall amazing people. I had the honour of taking on a temporary position for CBYF collecting data on health, education and accessibility needs for Oxford County. It was unfortunate to find so many resources needed in Oxford County, but I am hopeful that this can change and with your help we can raise awareness on the needs for youth in Oxford County.

I hope you stay tuned and learn more about everything we are trying to do. Any and all questions you may have please feel confident in contacting us. We are an open and non-judgmental group of people. Also – don’t forget to follow our Facebook, Instagram and TikTok @oxfordyouth.cbyf to stay updated on everything we are doing and to get involved!
